A courtroom sketch of Michael Cohen (center) reading a statement on Thursday, November 29th. |
Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, has pleaded guilty on Thursday, November 29th to lying to Congress about the project for Trump Tower Moscow. He replaces Trump with "Individual 1" in order to lessen connections between Moscow negotiations and President Trump.
In the past, Michael Cohen has been a loyal ally to President Trump, claiming, "I'm the guy who stops the leaks. I'm the guy who protects the President and the family. I'm the guy who would take a bullet for the President." (NYdailynews), and has engaged in hush-money deals with those previously in scandals with Trump. In August, Cohen also admitted to committing several federal crimes, having committed unlawful corporate contribution and illegal campaign contribution under the Trump organization.
Trump regarded Cohen as a friend and good person, however his response claimed otherwise, claiming that Cohen lied in order to get a pardon from him. "He was convicted of various things unrelated to us...He's a weak person and what he's trying to do is get a reduced sentence." In two weeks, Cohen will be sentenced for his new guilty plea.
Questions:
What do you think Michael Cohen deserves? Do you think Trump will help Cohen despite changing his opinion?

ReplyDeleteI think many untold truth will be discovered soon. And whatever the truth is, it gonna hurt Americans because right now the President is being investigated and if lies are discovered, Americans will lose trusts in its government
Although Cohen is guilty I feel like its not fair that hes getting blamed for everything. Trump obviously had a part in all of this but because of his power and money he is able to escape all of this. I don't think Trump is loyal to anyone and will ditch anyone who gets caught.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump's opinion of Cohen changed so dramatically because he is trying to save face. If Cohen's statements are true, then it would implicate Trump and his administration. Basically, Trump isn't afraid to throw friends under the bus if it suits his agenda. In the end though, I think Trump might pardon Cohen, unless he gets removed from office.
ReplyDeleteMichael Cohen basically lied during the investigation so I feel like he should serve some time for that, but mostly I feel like Trump shouldn't be in office anymore considering he's been in so many scandals. I'm not sure what Trump will do, but he seems like the kind of person to turn on someone for exposing him so there's that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in that both Cohen and Trump deserve at least some kind of punishment, especially since Trump has allowed his business interests combine with political interests, which is not necessarily a wise thing as a leader of a country.
DeleteI find it interesting how such a seemingly loyal and important person for Trump could so quickly turn against him. I wonder if Trump realized Cohen's actual attitude towards him, although that question might have already been answered if Trump regarded him as a friend and good person.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Micheal Cohen knew what he was doing when he committed federal crimes. Although I feel bad for him because it seems like Trump is not repaying his loyalty, I do think Micheal deserves to be fairly prosecuted for his crimes
ReplyDeleteThis feels like a set up, why would Micheal be guilty of something when Trump is the real threat. Doesn't feel right
ReplyDeleteIgnoring what happened just three hours ago, I believe that Trump should be punished as well as Cohen because there has been proof that Trump did reimburse Cohen on certain things. It's so unfair how Trump gets away with so many things.
