The Pentagon has refused Donald Trump and his administration's request for US army troops to come to the US-Mexico border. This is related to American democracy because this event deals with the powers/controls of the White House vs the US Pentagon.
Do you think we should have 15,000 troops at the border? Is there an alternative to this? What should we do with the migrant caravan?

15,000 troops is too much to request for. If Trump wants protection at the border he should stick to whatever current solution we have now instead of changing it so that it won't be so violent. We should just leave the migrant caravan alone since I don't think they pose a threat to the US or the country's security.
ReplyDeleteA request of 15,000 troops for "crowd and traffic control" in my opinion is a bit too much. However, this is still better than suggesting military at the border to open fire on any migrant who threw rocks at the troops. I feel like Trump have more important issues to be taken care of that border portals.
ReplyDeleteTrump's request to send the military to the border flies in blatant disregard of the fundamental tenets of human political ethics. To treat foreign victims of violence as though they were an invading force betrays the inherent moral purpose of a government: to organize society so as to improve the lives of people. It is despicable that the United States fails to acknowledge foreign people as humans we have a duty to help, and shows that the US government does not help people, it helps power.

Because of this major financial deficit this would cause our country, I do not think Trump's request for 15,000 troops at the border should be granted. Although I am not exactly sure how to answer this problem, I think Trump should be worrying about other more important issues.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Trumps request for 15,000 troops should be granted because the money that would be put towards that could be going towards something else. I am not entirely sure on a better solution but I am sure that there could be better things to be focusing on then the immigration issue like the poor education system we currently have.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump's request should not go through because using military force at the border to assert authority is not the best idea. Implementing more troops just adds more problems and conflicts between immigrants and the people in control of the center. Although I can not come up with a definite solution, I think that Trump should focus more on other foreign and domestic affairs rather than worrying about immigrants coming into the country.
ReplyDeleteI agree. A more permanent solution for the immigration crisis is one that is hard to find, but we should be focusing our energy on finding that solution instead of focusing on troops at the border.
