Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

Paul Manafort's mugshot.
Paul Manafort is an American lobbyist, political consultant, lawyer and now a convicted felon.  He joined Donal Trumps 2016 presidential campaign as a campaign chairman between June and August 2016.

On September 14th 2018 he admitted to years of financial crimes related to his secret lobbying work for a pro-russian political party and politician in Ukraine.  He plead guilty to conspiring to defraud the United States and conspiring to obstruct justice.  He faces 10 years in prison (excluding an additional sentence related to tax and bank fraud) and was ordered to forfeit around $15 million he hid from the IRS.

After signing a plea deal, prosecutors with FBI special counsel Robert S. Mueller III claims Manafort breached this agreement by lying repeatedly during investigations into Russian interference int he 2016 presidential campaign.  Although Manafort denies lying, this may seriously effect his sentencing.

I think that all of this is very suspicious.  Its shocking that these investigations haven't uncovered enough dirt on Trump to also make him accountable.  I think that Paul Manafort may be protecting others involved in the Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election.  This reflects how corrupt our government is and how much stuff is going on that we don't know about.

Questions:
Do you think Manafort lied to the FBI?  If so, how do you think this will effect his sentencing?
How do you feel about the fact Manafort was accused of lying after pleading guilty?  Do you think he still has a reason to hide information from the FBI?

  1. Su - I think it is suspicious how investigations have not found enough information to make Trump accountable. But I don't think Manafort has any reason to hide information from the FBI after all he had already plead guilty.

  2. I think he definitely is lying, especially since he has been lying so much up to this point. If he has all there connections to Russia and Ukraine involving fraud and he is so involved with the Trump campaign, I think that it is a very clear indicator that Trump did have some money connections to Russia that are being covered up before the American public and law.

    1. Hey Ana! I totally agree, everything is very suspicious. Even though there is some speculation about weather he lied or not, I doubt the FBI would randomly accuse him of lying for no reason.

  3. I think he is lying because of his background and what has lead up to this. Once the FBI find out I think the consequences would be worse than before and he is just wasting time by lying to the FBI. He could be still hiding some information he doesn't want to tell anyone just to mess with the FBI or slow down their investigation on him.

  4. I believe that he is lying since all his statements are pretty much not adding up and no one would wanna believe someone who doesn't have their story straight. And I know that he plead guilty so there's no point on hiding the truth about all his connections and if Trump did have some sort of hush money to Russia.

  5. I think there is a lot of suspicions around this whole campaign in general and we been getting a lot of news about Trump's lawyers, now the chairman of his campaign is having problems. more or less, I think this could lead to the unfolding of more series of troubles

  6. I am not sure if he is still lying up to this point, so the the FBI definitely should investigate about it. If he is still lying, then there must be something or someone that he's trying to protect since lying after the pleading guilty doesn't do any good for himself.

    1. Definitely! I feel like as people get caught, more information will unfold about Trumps participation in all of this.

  7. I think that Manafort is most likely lying to the FBI which will definitely not help his sentencing. It surprises me that individuals such as Manafort continue to protect Trump and others involved in Russian interference when cooperating with the FBI could allow them to get lessened sentencing
