Another woman accuses Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct

On Sunday, a 53-year old woman named Deborah Ramirez accused Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, of sexual misconduct. Ramirez alleges that one night at a dorm party 35 years ago, Kavanaugh exposed himself to her after a drinking game while they were both students at Yale University. In The New Yorker report, Ramirez states she “remembers Kavanaugh standing to her right and laughing, pulling up his pants. “Brett was laughing,” she said. “I can still see his face, and his hips coming forward, like when you pull up your pants.”’

Although, Kavanaugh wrote in a statement that he denies these actions did not happen, he further mentions that “ the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime building -- against these last-minute allegations." The White House spokesperson, Kerri Kupec speaks up on the issue and addresses that these claims on Kavanaugh are false and that the White House is still in support of Kavanaugh.

Even if Ramirez admits that there are gaps in her memory from college, the 53 year-old is confident that the Supreme Court nominee was indeed there and he had pulled his pants up. Furthermore in The New Yorker report, they interviewed a few of Ramirez and Kavanaugh’s classmates at the time. Some have mentioned that this incident never occured, while one source says that they are 100% sure it has happened because it stuck with him even after graduating.

With all of this in mind, do you believe Deborah Ramirez’s allegations against nominee Brett Kavanaugh, despite that this situation happened supposedly 35 years ago? Why or why not?

  1. I find it interesting that the White House Spokesperson said to the public that the allegations were false, and states that they still support Kavanaugh. I feel they shouldn't dismiss the allegations so easily, and it shows they are biased for Kavanaugh.

  2. If two sources says the same thing, doesn't it become evidence that its statement about Brett Kavanaugh are true.

  3. Su - I think even if it was supposedly 35 years ago, if it did happened then Brett Kavanaugh should be punished for what he did. Even if it was a mistake, some mistakes should not be forgiven.

  4. Against Brett Kavanaugh, I don't necessarily believe nor do believe in Deborah Ramirez's allegations, but since there is another allegation about not only at a high school party that sexual misconduct could've possibly happened, but also possible sexual misconduct at a college party, I would say that it wouldn't hurt if Kavanaugh at least acknowledged the fact that it might've happened while he was under the influence. I also feel that if this were true, it should affect his standing due to his tainted moral compass.

  5. I doubt that something so shocking and traumatizing as sexual harassment and assault would be easily forgotten by the victim. I think the allegations should be taken seriously, especially because of his denial of it and dismissal of these events show that he doesn't show any remorse for his actions. As someone who could potentially be making huge decisions in american law, his character and past should be thoroughly researched.

  6. I recognize that these allegations against Kavanaugh were about events that happened a long time ago, and it may have passed the limitation of years for which someone can report a sexual assault, but I don't think that someone who may have assaulted someone should have the amazing privilege of serving as Supreme Court judge. Someone in this position should have respect for other people and a clean record. If this is the way he handles being around women intoxicated, or the way he handles these allegations, then he definitely should not be allowed to choose what happens in the important cases that reach the supreme court.

  7. To be considered for this prestigious position I believe the candidate should be spotless and the decision should be clear. If there is any confusion or doubt that he should not be the supreme court justice, all instances must be taken into account to make the decision. From a character standpoint what he did many years ago is not the type of person we would want as the pick.

  8. I don't think time should dictate whether or not if the assault happened or not. Often times victims have a hard time coming forth to speaking up about their experiences is because they're afraid of facing someone who is seen as powerful and untouchable.
